Mr Ratliiff performed a parathyroidectomy on my father at Northampton General Hospital.
The operation was a complete success and at all stages of the process, Mr Ratliff demonstrated the highest levels of professionalism coupled with exemplary communication skills.
We appreciated the direct but friendly manner in which Mr Ratliff engaged with my father throughout the process.
My father and I would recommend Mr Ratliff without hesitation.

I was very pleased with the care given to me by Mr Ratliff. The difficult condition was handled with great expertise and would definitely recommend him to other patients with large multinodular thyroid. The scar was fantastic too!

My partner has recently undergone surgery at Three Shires Hospital, Northampton, with Dr Ratliff. I attended the appointments with my partner and was very impressed with how Dr Ratliff explained in detail the surgical procedure my partner required for his upper abdominal hernia. Any uncertainties and concerns were patiently explained to put our minds at ease.
The scar after 4 weeks looks very clean and neat and was commented on to this affect by the nurses at our own surgery.

My condition was an Upper Abdominal Hernia, which I had developed over three years ago, so it was not a small Hernia. Doctor Ratliff from the word go made me feel at ease
and got me in for surgery within a month of the appointment. All the team at the Three Shires Hospital that looked after me were very caring and professional.The outcome of my operation was amazing even though he could not do key hole due to the size of the hernia.
It has only been four weeks since surgery and the scar is just a very neat thin line. I give Dr Ratliff 10 out 10 and would recommend him to anyone that needs this surgery .

I can honestly say that from consultation, treatment, before and after care I was always well informed and that info was explained carefully, I felt that from diagnosis, examination to results, and aftercare the guideline to a speedy recovery were tailored to my personal circumstances, and professional work environment, with plenty of time for question and answers pre and post opperation - as not everyone get professional medical terms often used. This surgeon is clearly very experienced in his field which made me feel very confident and positive, and I found his manner calming. The results and recovery from his surgery could not have been any better in my case. Mr Radliff's professionalism and experience combined with his very human approach and clear dedication to a very high level of quality healthcare would make me recommend this surgeon.

About me
David Ratliff is a very experienced general, endocrine, laparoscopic and vascular surgeon with over 27 years experience as a consultant in these fields. He was initially a consultant at the Leicester Royal Infirmary from 1991-94 and then moved to Northampton where he has been working at the Northampton General (NGH) and BMI Three Shires Hospitals since 1994.
During his career David has led the progressive development and delivery of the general, endocrine and vascular surgical services in Northampton as high quality services with very good outcomes and a national reputation for clinical excellence.
He has extensive experience in managing all general surgical conditions including hernias, gallbladder disease, anorectal problems including haemorrhoids and anal fissure, abdominal pain, pilonidal sinus and removal of lumps and bumps. He is an expert in laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair and hernia repairs of all types.
David is a high volume endocrine surgeon, carrying out surgery for benign thyroid disease, thyroid cancer and parathyroid surgery with excellent results and an activity in the top 10-15% procedures nationally. He is a leading specialist in the management of thyroid cancer.
He has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of all vascular problems including circulatory and venous conditions. He is an expert in the treatment of varicose veins by keyhole surgery and injection sclerotherapy, and also of spider and thread veins. He has wide experience in vascular access and the insertion of portacaths and central lines for chemotherapy.
He led the vascular service at NGH for over 20 years, introducing a wide range of new procedures and the latest technology and techniques. This resulted in major improvements and the formation of the Northamptonshire Vascular Service in 2012 with Northampton as the vascular centre.
David has maintained a strong commitment to high professional standards and continuing professional development with up-to-date specialist knowledge throughout his career. He was an Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons and Intercollegiate Specialty Board in General Surgery for 16 years and Clinical Director of the Department of Surgery at NGH from 2001-2005. He has also maintained an active interest in clinical research and has been the author of over 35 publications.
He was awarded a National Silver Award for Clinical Excellence in 2008 and before that a National Bronze Award for Clinical Excellence in 2004.
